Barcodes
Encrypted barcode tickets now scan as fast as smart-cards, and are ready for mass-transit use. Call us to arrange a demonstration.
The demonstration video above shows multiple handsets being scanned and decoded in a “gate” scenario. The “beep” is after the system completes the entire scan, decrypt 1024bit RSA, decode and validate of the ticket, so it represents the same time that would be taken to give the “gate release” signal.
UK Secure Rail Ticketing Standard
Masabi has defined for RSP (part of the Association of Train Operating Companies) the newly approved interoperable Security Standard for Rail e-Ticketing in the UK, and also the barcode formats to be shared between Rail companies for their printed and mobile delivered barcode tickets.
- Open secure encrypted barcode design
- Securing data with best-of-breed open cryptographic algorithms.
- Shared between vendors and train companies
- Essential in the complex multi-franchise UK Rail industry.
- Rendered as royalty-free Aztec 2D barcodes, optimised for on-screen scanning.
- Can be validated by off-line scanners.
- Available as a software upgrade to many already-deployed barcode scanners.
Masabi’s Improved Barcode Rendering
- Industry leading on-phone barcode rendering technology;
- Always shows the barcode full-screen, improving speed and accuracy.
Suitable Barcode Scanners
To scan RP6 barcodes on mobile screens, online or off-line, the scanner must support 2D Aztec encoding with a CCD imager.
Several types exist:
- Handheld
- Small basic scanners for door staff;
- Advanced PDA based scanners for service staff;
- Small scanner linked to existing phone/PDA via Bluetooth.
- Cash Register/EPOS Scanners
- Connect via USB or as “keyboard wedge” in between keyboard and EPOS like a normal scanner.
- Fixed Scanners for gates or check-outs
- Retro-fit to existing gates, user places phone face-down to scan;
- Built-in at manufacture by gate supplier.
- The latest scanners can validate standard phones as fast as smart-card
