Masabi Crowned 2012 Bully Award Winner

Transport mobile ticketing pioneer honoured as a leading European TMT company

BARCELONA and London – 9 October 2012 Masabi, a developer of mTicketing technology for the transit sector, was announced today as a Longhorn winner of the 2012 Bully Awards honouring Europe’s leading technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) companies as presented by White Bull Summits, champions of European innovation.

A total of 60 European companies were named as finalists for the 2012 Bully Award and the deserving winners were selected from a pool of entries that included hundreds of nominated European TMT companies.

The winners fall into three categories:

Yearlings: firms that seek or have received angel/seed rounds or equivalent; classic start-ups
Young Bulls: firms that seek or have received Series A financing; early stage companies
Longhorns: post Series A firms; growth stage companies

"The 2012 Bully Award winners were selected for innovation and excellence in the TMT sector. They are leaders in their field, with meaningful business propositions and market strategies, driven by a rich understanding of customer needs and technological solutions,” stated Farley Duvall, Chairman and founder of White Bull Summits.

“We’re honoured to be named a 2012 Bully Award winner and to be recognized as one of the leading TMT companies in Europe,” stated Ben Whitaker, CEO of Masabi. “It’s validating to be named as a winner of this prestigious award and it encourages us to continue making transport mTicketing a truly global phenomenon.”

Masabi could signal the end of ticket queues with its ‘ticket machine in your pocket’ app. As the leading developer of mobile ticketing technology, it allows passengers to buy and display tickets on most mobile phones - not just smartphones. Founded in 2002, the company works in partnership with the likes of thetrainline.com and is deployed with operators including Virgin Trains, Chiltern Railways, First Capital Connect, and is starting to work within the United States with transit agencies such as MBTA Boston and MTA New York.

“The White Bull judges very carefully reviewed seed-stage, early-stage and growth-stage companies, and selected the winning companies they believe have demonstrated clear potential for further growth and a high probability for exit in the next few years,” added Duvall.

White Bull has a highly successful track record in identifying Europe’s leading TMT companies. A number of previous Bully Award winners identified by White Bull were acquired in the past two years including BuyVIP (acquired by Amazon), JayCut (acquired by RIM), Q-go (acquired by RightNow Technologies), Severa Corp (acquired by Visma Group), SunglassesShop.com (acquired by Glasses Direct), Ubitexx (acquired by RIM), Vilant Systems Oy (merged RFID activities with Swisscom Auto-ID Services AG), and WatchMouse (acquired by CA Technologies).
