Transport Ticketing 2012 kicks off the New Year as the first major event in the Masabi calendar and it really is a ‘must attend’ for those interested in mTicketing. This year, Masabi is exhibiting, speaking and sponsoring, and we’re looking forward to meeting some of the transport industry’s most influential figures to discuss the latest developments in mTicketing technology.

In the build up to the event, at 15:00 GMT on Wednesday 11th January, Masabi CEO Ben Whitaker will join Thomas Ableman from Chiltern Railways and Stephen Stonall Henningsen from Movia in a free webinar providing an overview of mTicketing and the potential it holds for transport operators. Following the presentations, there will be an opportunity to participate in a live Q&A session with Ben and the other speakers. At the event Ben will be speaking on a panel debating the merits of smartcard ticketing, alongside; Nigel Eggleton, Veolia TransDev Blazefield; Chris Shoukry, The ALCO Group; Mike Cowan, MasterCard; and Mick Davies, LASSeO. Earlier on that day, at 09:50, Chiltern Railways Marketing Manager, Thomas Ableman, will present a talk entitled ‘The UK’s first mTicketing scheme for railways – realise the financial potential of mobile ticketing’. The presentation will discuss the business case behind the mTicketing technology developed in partnership with Masabi & Atos that is now live on the train operator’s routes, as well as the key steps towards a practical implementation of mTicketing on transport networks.

Masabi on Panel at MWC 2012

Keep your eyes glued to the big screen on the Avenida this February: Masabi CEO Ben Whitaker is set to appear on the main speaker panel on the opening day of the world’s biggest mobile event.

The session is entitled “Apps for all: how apps are changing our lives” and will bring together the world’s foremost mobile app experts. The session will explore the apps that are changing people’s lives, the secret to their financial success, and the future evolution of the industry.

Masabi Recognised as Top Mobile Innovator

Masabi has been hailed as a Top 50 Mobile Innovator by influential mobile news website Mobile Entertainment (ME).

Announced on 19th August 2011, the top 50 winners of ME’s Mobile Innovators project were identified by a judging panel of VCs, analysts, entrepreneurs and other mobile experts to be the most exciting and innovative British firms operating in the mobile space. The Top 50 firms were involved in a wealth of sectors with lucrative business opportunities, including mTicketing, gaming, loyalty, payments, advertising, education, gifting and more.

Tim Green, executive editor of ME, said: “Britain has always been home to inventors and entrepreneurs. It’s been that way since the Industrial Revolution – which we invented too, of course. Today, as we enter the information revolution, that entrepreneural spirit is clearly found in the mobile space. It’s very gratifying to provide a showcase of the best of UK mobile, and I congratulate all those who made the 50.”

Masabi Claims Crown at BLN Money in Mobile Award 2011

Masabi was crowned winner at the BLN Money in Mobile Award 2011, which took place on Tuesday. The award was organised and run by the Business Leaders Network, one of the most prominent organisers of business and investment forums in the UK.

Masabi CPO Giacomo Biggiero presented the Masabi proposition for mTicketing in the transport sector to a judging panel of eminent VCs and mobile industry experts. There was very strong competition from all of the finalist companies, which featured a wide range of exciting startups, with StrikeAd and ParcelGenie.com in particular offering very convincing arguments for the top spot.

There could, however, be only one winner, and – after an executive decision from the judging panel in what turned out to be a very close-run competition – Masabi stepped up to claim the award at the end of the day.

Masabi would like to thank Mark Littlewood, all the organisers of the event and the judges. We would also like to say well done to the other 11 finalist companies and wish them the best of luck for the future.

Masabi Shortlisted for Money in Mobile Award 2011

Masabi has been shortlisted for the BLN Money in Mobile Award 2011!

The award is run by the Business Leaders Network and seeks to discover up-and-coming companies that are making money in the mobile industry.

Over 25 judges – made up of investors, advisers and jounalists – selected a shortlist of 12 companies from a pool of 48 to go into the final competition, being held at the Money in Mobile Forum on June 14th.

The final will see each company make a five minute presentation about why their business is uniquely placed to make money from mobile users, with the winning company being chosen by a judging panel of mobile and business experts.

Masabi CEO to Speak at Digital Money Forum 2011

Our CEO Ben Whitaker will be talking on the transport panel at Digital Money Forum 2011 this week. The annual event is being held in London at the Guoman Charing Cross Hotel on Wednesday and Thursday.

Ben will be participating in the talk named ‘Expert Panel: The transit vanguard‘ at 4:00 pm on Wednesday 2nd March. Other panelists include Shashi Verma from Transport for London; Jenni Borg from the Department for Transport; and Phil Blythe from the University of Newcastle. The panel will be chaired by John Elliot from Consult Hyperion, the event organisers.

The panel will discuss how transport payments are expected to be amongst the first major volume uses of mobile commerce and non-cash payments, and will talk about what other new payment schemes could learn from experiences in the transport sector.

Masabi @ Mobile World Congress 2011

Last week’s Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona proved to be a hugely valuable event for Masabi, allowing us to significantly raise our profile on the global stage.

From the Masabi pod on the UKTI stand we showcased our transport m-ticketing software that is rolling out across the UK and is set to bring a sweeping change to the way ordinary passengers buy tickets for travel.

The stand allowed the team to meet with a wide variety of international business people who were interested in the potential applications of our transport m-ticketing software in foreign markets.

Among the highlights of the show was CEO Ben Whitaker meeting with Lord Stephen Green, the UK Minister for Trade & Investment. The discussion centred around how Masabi’s technology is being applied to the transport industry – a sector in which politics and investment play active roles – to increase ticket sales capacity while at the same time reducing operating costs for train companies.

After meeting Lord Green, the Sky News crew that was covering the Minister’s visit stopped by the Masabi pod to interview Ben about the technology, which is due to go live with Chiltern Railways in the spring, closely followed by a number of other transport operators.

The stand of the show was by far and away the Android exhibition, which featured a smoothie bar, a make-your-own Android workshop, collectable Android pins and even a slide!

The Masabi exhibition space was provided by the UK Trade & Investment team, who did an excellent job of organising the companies, providing introductions to international contacts, and publicising and promoting the considerable talent of UK technology at the event.

Masabi to Demonstrate Transport M-Ticketing at MWC 2011 – Visit Us on Stand AV26

With this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona just over a week away, there is a palpable sense of excitement in the air, and the mobile world is poised for the biggest calendar event of the year. This year, Masabi will have its first ever exhibition space at MWC, and we invite everyone to visit our pod to learn more about our transport m-ticketing software.

We’ll be demonstrating our transport m-ticketing software running on a wide range of handsets, from the latest high-end smartphones such as the iPhone, BlackBerry Torch and Samsung Galaxy right through to older legacy devices like the Nokia 6300. You’ll be able to see first-hand how our expertise has crafted an intuitive, polished experience across all major platforms and handsets.

Masabi Wins a Top Place on UKTI Stand at Barcelona MWC

Masabi walked away from the recent Mobile Monday competition with one of the top prizes on offer – a place on the UKTI stand at the Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona!

Going head-to-head for one of three coveted places on the stand, 11 companies each made a 3 minute Dragon’s Den-style presentation to impress the judges, followed by a 5 minute Q&A. The time enforcement was rigorous and the standard of competition was extremely high, so high in fact that the judges eventually decided to award four places!

Top honours went to Masabi, for our mobile phone transport ticketing technology; Private Planet, who pitched an impressive cloud computing platform; Deltenna, for their Wifi router that runs off 3G signals; and Input Dynamics, who presented their acoustic user-interface for mid-tier mobile phones.

The stand – which we’re very excited about – will provide Masabi with an unprecedented level of exposure for our mobile ticketing technology, allowing us to showcase it to the international A-list of the mobile world.

Commiserations go to the runners-up, who pitched a wealth of innovative and vibrant ideas, and will surely be ones to watch for the future. They won’t be too disappointed though, as they also won a free pass each to the show. An honourable mention goes to PassivSystems, whose home energy-saving device and mobile app narrowly missed out on a top spot, despite delivering an exemplary presentation and product.
