JustRide FAQs

JustRide Platform

+ - How quickly can my agency roll out mTicketing using the JustRide Platform?

Masabi’s estimate is that for a standard core set of requirements, JustRide could be rolled out for a new agency in less than 6 months.

+ - How future-proofed is the JustRide Platform?

The JustRide Platform provides a product roadmap for the future, readying it for the next decade of transformation that will see the mobile become the default tool for passenger information and ticketing.

New features created centrally on the Platform become available without each agency or operator having to invest separately to develop them. Improvements and features relating to the scope of the original product license are provided for free to the agency or operator; additional modules offering entirely new functionality will be optional and offered to all agencies or operators, but may carry additional cost if taken.

+ - Which Payment Service Provider (PSP) does JustRide use?

All merchant services with regard to payment handling will be taken care of by the customer’s preferred Payment Service Provider.
The JustRide payment service will integrate with the PSP via their payment API, with all transactions logged and reported on daily. This enables the customer’s finance department to reconcile the JustRide Platform’s transaction reports and invoices with the funds transferred to the customer’s merchant account. All logs and reports are fully PCI compliant.

+ - Can the Platform integrate into our existing Support and CRM tools, eg. Salesforce?

The JustRide Platform is built on top of standard RESTful JSON APIs, which can be used to integrate into any third party system.

JustRide Customer Experience

+ - Can I brand the JustRide app for my agency?

The JustRide Customer Application is designed with care to allow for a look and feel in-line with any agency’s brand. Some of the features that can easily be changed include:

Agency logo, used in a number of locations throughout the app.
Color scheme, applying agency colors consistently across the app to create a professional and easy to use branded style.
Station lists, schedules, maps and fare list can be configured, or pulled in automatically from a GTFS feed.
Support text, instructions, information screens and contact details.
Terms and Conditions.
Languages and internationalization.
In addition, the basic application workflow can be adjusted to work with a wide range of fare structures, including zonal fares, peak pricing, variable pricing by origin/destination and flat fares.

+ - What types of fare structure are supported?

The JustRide Platform has built-in support for a wide range of ticketing models, including any mix of:

  • zonal / inter-zonal fares
  • peak pricing
  • variable pricing by origin/destination
  • flat fares
  • season passes for fixed durations
  • season passes tied to calendar months
  • one-off and event-based fares

The Customer Application UI will automatically add in steps for the user to select Origin and Destination and Peak/Off Peak selection where appropriate, or simply offer a flat fare list.

These can be configured in a range of ways:

  1. Automatically, from a GTFS feed that includes fares.
  2. Manually, through the Hub UI.
  3. Via integration into an external Fare Engine, using the Platform’s extensible plug and play API support.

Rider discounts can also be enabled, adjustable to suit a wide range of concession schemes.

+ - How long does it take to purchase a ticket in the app?

The first time your customers will buy a ticket on the JustRide mobile app it can take under 1 minute – the second time, under 10 seconds, with favourite journeys and card details securely saved.

+ - Do riders need to pre-register or create a login before purchasing a ticket?

Whilst a login can be useful in a number of circumstances, it takes time to create a login and won’t suit every rider.  The JustRide Customer App has been designed to remove all barriers that might slow a rider down, including the creation of mandatory logins – the entire purchase process has been streamlined to allow riders to rapidly purchase and use their pass.

Even without a login, the App remembers the rider’s details in a secure fashion, and requires the rider to re-enter the CVV number from the back of their credit card to make a repeat purchase.

+ - What mobile devices is the JustRide Customer App available on?

Currently the JustRide Customer Application supports iOS devices (iPhone and iPad), Android handsets and Blackberries.

Moving forward, the JustRide Customer Application is kept up-to-date with support for handsets that run widely available versions of the top three cell phone Operating Systems within the customer transport agency’s geographical region, and additional handsets may well be supported in addition to these.

JustRide Hub Back Office

+ - Can I brand the JustRide app for my agency?

Rider discounts can also be enabled, adjustable to suit a wide range of concession schemes.

JustRide Ticket Validation

+ - What mobile devices is the JustRide Ticket Validation App available on?

The Validation Application is available for devices running recent versions of iOS and Android.  The core Validation API used by these apps can also be integrated into a wide variety of platforms and hardware configurations, for example to drive gate or on-vehicle scanners.

Masabi will recommend reliable, cost effective and high performance hardware on request, based on an agency’s individual requirements.  Please note that there is a wide range of performance difference between different handset cameras, and choice of hardware can have a huge impact on the efficiency of Barcode scanning.

+ - How does the Validation App scan tickets?

The Validation App by default uses high performance camera-based scanning to decode and validate barcode tickets. Where available, the App can integrate into a variety of dedicated barcode scanners and handset “sleds”.

For the iOS platform we can also integrate into a range of fixed and mobile USB and Bluetooth barcode scanning units, suitable for running a full on-vehicle solution for buses

JustRide Cloud Hosting

+ - How does the JustRide platform guarantee 99.9% up-time?

Masabi utilizes multiple levels of redundancy and virtualization to achieve high levels of up-time and a fast recovery time in the case of recovering from a disaster.

The JustRide service is hosted across three physically separate data centers, with the full software and hardware stack duplicated in each center. Each of the software and hardware stacks are capable of handling the normal load on the service. However the service is load balanced across all three data centers so any failure in one or two of the stacks will have no effect on service availability.

In the event of catastrophic failure of all three hosting centers, the service would be restored using the cold standby mirror image of this hosting environment maintained by Masabi using nightly off-site encrypted database backups. In addition to the encrypted off-site database backups, the virtual machine images for all the servers in the stack are encrypted and backed up off-site when any software components are updated. This enables a new hosting environment to be rapidly deployed if required.

In addition to maintaining the service availability in a disaster scenario, all software code, configuration and development environments are backed up off-site and use virtual machine images to enable service support to be rapidly resumed in case of any need to relocate the Masabi office facilities in the event of natural or man-made disasters.

JustRide Security

+ - How secure are payments made with the JustRide service?

In a word, very.

JustRide Platform servers are hosted using Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), part of Amazon EC2 web services (http://aws.amazon.com/vpc/), within the same geographical region as the transport agency.

The Amazon EC2 service is a secure, durable technology Platform with industry-recognized certifications and audits: PCI DSS Level 1, ISO 27001, FISMA Moderate, HIPAA, and SAS 70 Type II

All payment instrument storage is fully PCI DSS version 2 compliant.  Payments are segregated from the main App Server in a separate firewalled zone, minimizing the PCI surface and allowing all PCI sensitive data to be sent and stored within a fully separate server instance.

Masabi provides an attestation of PCI Merchant Compliance, and conducts regular independent assessments with a QSA.
