Chiltern Railways Press Release: Train Company Releases Free Revolutionary Real Time App

Train Company Releases Free Revolutionary Real Time App

Date:22 Sep 2011 09:38

Chiltern Railways are the first train company to respond to the industry need for improvements to real time information by providing a free mobile application that gives information for any UK train journey.

The launch of this app comes at a time when Passenger Focus today shared new research about how train companies can improve information during unplanned disruption and particularly highlights the need for real time accurate information. Previously, the only way to get live departure information in an app cost £4.99.

The real time feature adds to the integrated mobile ticketing application that the company released earlier in the year, which also enables customers to book any train tickets without a booking fee. The acclaimed App has been Apple’s App of the Week and also featured in The Gadget Show.

The company have also just completed a £250 million investment to cut journey times between Birmingham and London Marylebone by 28 minutes to make the quickest journey time just 90 minutes. However, the company stresses that this App can be used for any train journeys and not just Chiltern Railway journeys.

Thomas Ableman, Director of Chiltern Railways said: “We are always looking at how we can improve the service we give to our customers. One of the key ways we can do this is to ensure that our customers have access to real time information at all times and for all operators. Our app also gives our customers the ability to buy, receive and display tickets. It really is a one stop app for everything you need for travelling by train.”

Chiltern Railways will continue to develop this App with our suppliers Masabi and Atos to ensure that the needs of rail customers are met.

Chiltern Railways pioneering integrated mobile ticketing application is also available on Android phones.

The Chiltern Railways application does not charge a booking fee, and the application is free to download. To get the application passengers just need to text “Chiltern” to 88600 or search the relevant app stores.
