In support of Living Streets and National Walking Month 2022, a group of Passenger staff are making their way through a 4,000km trek, cycle and swim.<\/span><\/p>\n

17 staff members will collectively walk more than 350 miles per week for seven weeks as part of \u2018The Pacific Crest Trail Virtual Challenge\u2019, an initiative run by The Conqueror Challenges. The 2,485-mile trek equates to the same distance as a hiking trail across the highest portion of the Cascade and Sierra Nevada Mountain ranges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the challenge, Passenger will contribute more than \u00a3500 to The Conqueror Challenges, which will go towards sustainable initiatives such as tree planting and plastic pollution prevention. To date, The Conqueror Challenges has planted more than 5.5m trees and helped stop more than 4.5m plastic bottles from entering the ocean, in collaboration with Plastic Bank.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Katie Killinger, Head of People at Passenger commented: <\/span>\u201cThis year marks our most challenging staff sustainability initiative yet and we can\u2019t wait to get started. <\/span>Every member of our team genuinely supports Passenger\u2019s purpose and long-term goal to accelerate the UK\u2019s journey towards shared, sustainable transport. Taking part in collaborative activities like our National Walking Month challenge is a great way to support causes we believe in, while motivating the team as we\u2019re all in it together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Passenger\u2019s latest pledge follows many initiatives previously undertaken by the team, including the \u2018Route 66 Virtual Challenge\u2019, which saw employees walk, run and cycle 2,280 miles over the winter. Passenger also supports Living Streets\u2019 ongoing \u2018Walk To School Week\u2019 initiative and \u2018#Try20\u2019 summer challenge, which promotes adding 20 minutes of walking to everyday lives, as well as running its own popular Night Hike events – a series of nocturnal rambling events in Dorset.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Katie continues: \u201cWe believe that anything encouraging our staff to follow a healthy lifestyle (of which active travel plays a part<\/a>) is a positive investment, so we subsidise wearable technology to support staff\u2019s exercise activities \u2013 both inside and outside of work. Businesses who talk the talk should walk the walk, and knowing our team are behind us every step of the way in our mission is invigorating \u2013 together, we can inspire positive change.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
