The process is simple and easy for our passengers to use, and the authorisation often only takes a few minutes to complete.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"1599\">\u201cThe revenue results speak for themselves,\u201d he continues. \u201cAnd such has been the success of this project that we\u2019ve since rolled our child and Gatwick Airport staff verifications too &#8211; the latter being a big step forward as we only offered that product via an <a class=\"confluence-ssr-app-tgpl01\" title=\"https:\/\/www.remindmewhatthatmeans.com\/itso\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.remindmewhatthatmeans.com\/itso\/\" data-testid=\"link-with-safety\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\">ITSO (smartcard) solution<\/a> before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"1895\"><a class=\"confluence-ssr-app-tgpl01\" title=\"https:\/\/www.buses.co.uk\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.buses.co.uk\/\" data-testid=\"link-with-safety\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Brighton &amp; Hove Buses<\/a> are no stranger to embracing technology as a means of improving operational efficiency and enhancing the <span id=\"5f8ab338-efe3-4b55-b7c4-06aa7d0830af\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"5f8ab338-efe3-4b55-b7c4-06aa7d0830af\">customer experience<\/span>. That journey as a trailblazing innovator began with the early adoption of smartcards in 2011, <a class=\"confluence-ssr-app-tgpl01\" title=\"https:\/\/www.buses.co.uk\/mobile-tickets\" href=\"https:\/\/www.buses.co.uk\/mobile-tickets\" data-testid=\"link-with-safety\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\">mobile ticketing<\/a> in 2013, <a class=\"confluence-ssr-app-tgpl01\" title=\"https:\/\/www.buses.co.uk\/contactless\" href=\"https:\/\/www.buses.co.uk\/contactless\" data-testid=\"link-with-safety\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\">contactless<\/a> in 2018 and then <a class=\"confluence-ssr-app-tgpl01\" title=\"https:\/\/www.buses.co.uk\/flexi-fares\" href=\"https:\/\/www.buses.co.uk\/flexi-fares\" data-testid=\"link-with-safety\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\">flexible TOTO capping<\/a> in 2019. <span id=\"e2299aa2-3064-42af-badb-a6843daa6154\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"e2299aa2-3064-42af-badb-a6843daa6154\">Beginning last year, they started using in-app verifications<\/span> to tackle fraud and stop non-students buying tickets they shouldn&#8217;t be using &#8211; and they were delighted by the results:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ak-ul\" data-indent-level=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2406\">The sale of student tickets dropped by half, and the volume of some adult tickets grew accordingly<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2508\"><span id=\"34e3b330-3226-4be4-822f-4de020198ab3\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"34e3b330-3226-4be4-822f-4de020198ab3\">This drove a significant increase in yield: average income per trip jumped by more than 13%, to the level it should be<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2630\">More than 25,000 students were successfully verified in the last academic year<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2712\">These great results, along with <a class=\"confluence-ssr-app-tgpl01\" title=\"https:\/\/www.masabi.com\/news\/thames-valley-blaze-trail-with-fraud-reduction-through-app-verifications\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.masabi.com\/news\/thames-valley-blaze-trail-with-fraud-reduction-through-app-verifications\/\" data-testid=\"link-with-safety\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\">similar outcomes at Thames Valley recently<\/a>, demonstrate clearly that this is an investment which generates genuine revenue growth.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2876\">\u201cWe&#8217;re invested in our customers&#8217; success,\u201d says Greg Hepworth, Director of Product &amp; Design at Passenger. <span id=\"888facb0-aee2-44eb-ba6c-a5279b0e9e08\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"888facb0-aee2-44eb-ba6c-a5279b0e9e08\">\u201cAnd it\u2019s great to see that our product development roadmap, built collaboratively with our customers, has delivered such tangible results for a major bus operator.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10401\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10401\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-13085 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.masabi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Product-Shot-Verifications-Travel-Simple.png\" alt=\"Verifications - product feature - travel simple\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.masabi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Product-Shot-Verifications-Travel-Simple.png 1080w, https:\/\/www.masabi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Product-Shot-Verifications-Travel-Simple-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/www.masabi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Product-Shot-Verifications-Travel-Simple-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.masabi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Product-Shot-Verifications-Travel-Simple-768x512.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10401\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Customers are notified as soon as their verification is successful, so they can get travelling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2657\">Improvements in technology have meant a surge in <span id=\"fb3650b6-7b57-4364-8644-3649733dce62\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"fb3650b6-7b57-4364-8644-3649733dce62\">off-bus<\/span> ticket purchases in recent years. That&#8217;s great news for cutting down on dwell times and getting buses moving more quickly (and reliably), <span id=\"364d0a1f-7b8a-49bb-86e8-eccca212cae5\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"364d0a1f-7b8a-49bb-86e8-eccca212cae5\">and helping drivers to focus on the most important element of their role: delivering passengers safely to their destination.<\/span> To offset the risk that comes from drivers having less direct control over transactions, we&#8217;ve embedded revenue protection in the way mobile tickets are designed and fulfilled on our apps. Security features such as QR validation on ticket machines and a dynamic interface, showing a live-to-the-second expiry countdown, boarding code and animated elements, make it easy for a driver to confirm that a genuine mobile ticket has been presented.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2657\">Verification then offers an additional layer of reassurance that people can only travel with products that they&#8217;re eligible to buy and use. Automating this process takes away a potential flashpoint between customer-facing staff and service users: the driver doesn&#8217;t need to request or see ID, and students are no longer at a loss if they&#8217;ve forgotten their matriculation card at home, because their status is saved to their profile on their device. It makes the whole boarding process quicker, simpler, more secure &#8211; and <span id=\"712199a0-591a-4b08-b08c-d6b43c14df32\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"712199a0-591a-4b08-b08c-d6b43c14df32\">more profitable<\/span> for the operator.<\/p>\n<p>As ever, the numbers speak for themselves. Brighton &amp; Hove Buses have seen a hugely positive impact on their bottom line, making verification a worthwhile investment. It delivered a boost to the average fare that even an army of ticket inspectors would be hard-pressed to achieve.
