Fire Island Ferries, Uber and Masabi Launch Uber Transit Ticketing for Ferry Riders

Starting today, Uber users can buy Fire Island Ferry tickets in the Uber app

Long Island, NY Uber, Masabi and Fire Island Ferries today announced a partnership that will enable Ferry riders to purchase tickets ahead of time directly in the Uber app. Prior to this partnership, riders would either need to line up and purchase tickets in person, or download Fire Island Ferries’ mobile ticketing app. This partnership allows for more convenient and safer ticket purchasing when reserving Ferry trips. This partnership will last throughout the summer season.

Starting today, users can open the Uber app, go to your menu, and select FI Ferry Tickets. Then choose the right ticket for your trip (either ferry or water taxi). The ferry takes riders between Bay Shore (Long Island) and the following Fire Island communities:

  • Kismet
  • Saltaire
  • Fair Harbor
  • Atlantique
  • Dunewood
  • Ocean Beach
  • Seaview
  • Ocean Bay Park

“Our goal at the Fire Island Ferries has always been to provide safe and efficient transportation to and from Fire Island. The new Uber integration will allow us to offer our customers more options to safely and easily purchase tickets without the need for waiting on long lines or handling cash,” said Anthony Bonventre, IT Director for Fire Island Ferries.

“As a New York company, we are excited to be working with Uber and Fire Island Ferries to bring the same safe and convenient multi-modal mobile experience we have delivered with Uber in Denver, Las Vegas and Ohio to Fire Island Ferry riders,” said Brian Zanghi, CEO of Masabi. “We have worked with Fire Island since 2017 when we launched the Fire Island mTickets app and are delighted to be helping to make taking a trip to Fire Island as easy as getting an Uber across town.”

“With summer upon us and people looking to hit the beach, we are excited to launch this new partnership with Fire Island Ferries. Instead of waiting on a crowded line, Fire Island go-ers can now seamlessly and safely purchase Ferry tickets directly into the Uber app,” said David Reich, Uber’s Head of Transit.

Purchasing ferry tickets via Uber will cost the same amount as through existing options. Transit ticketing has been enabled using Masabi’s mobile ticketing software development kit (SDK) for public transportation.

The water taxi takes riders between all the Fire Island communities, but not back to Bay Shore (Long Island). Ferry and water taxi tickets must be purchased separately. Please note that if you’re taking a water taxi, you’ll need to call 631-665-8885 to schedule a pickup time.

The Uber and Masabi ticketing product is live in Denver, Las Vegas, Ohio Region and Uber Boat by Thames Clippers in London.
