Masabi and National Express West Midlands Launch Regional Mobile Ticketing Across 23 Bus Operators

Passengers can now purchase a single nBus ticket for travel across all bus operators in the West Midlands using multi award-winning app

London, 14th of  October 2021 Masabi, the company bringing Fare Payments-as-a-Service to public transport and National Express West Midlands today announced that nBus mobile tickets can now be purchased using the NX Bus mTicket app – enabling travel on all 23 bus operators across the West Midlands, including The Black Country & Coventry. The NX Bus mTicket app is the first and only retailer of mobile nBus tickets via an app. Launched in 2016 and powered by Masabi’s Justride fare payments platform, the app is available for download on Google Play and the App Store and recently won the world’s best smart ticketing programme award (200k – 1m Daily Journeys) at the 2021 Transport Ticketing Awards.

Previously nBus tickets were only available from bus operator travel shops or via Swift, the West Midlands region-wide smartcard system. In addition to buying directly through the app, customers who prefer to use cash can purchase nBus mobile tickets at more than 1300 retail locations across the West Midlands thanks to a partnership with Payzone announced in May this year.

This announcement marks another innovative milestone in the long-standing partnership between Masabi and National Express West Midlands, as the two companies continue to evolve ticketing technology to make taking the bus simpler and more convenient than ever before.

“Building on our innovative work with National Express West Midlands, and following a similar model to regional projects Masabi has led in the US, we are delighted to see this ground-breaking offering launch,” said Brian Zanghi, CEO at Masabi. “Our two companies are working closely to make taking the bus with any operator across the West Midlands quicker and easier for passengers.”

“Our App is the first and only place where you can buy mobile tickets for travel on 23 bus operators across the region,” said Daljit Kalirai, Sales Director at National Express West Midlands ”We are proud to be bringing this innovative project to the market and look forward to future collaborations with Masabi as we continue to simplify bus travel across the Midlands.”
